Different cultures have different customs surrounding food and eating.Describe a food related custom you grew up with or have experienced.

Everytime we eat we must always not talk only until everyone is done then can one talk. If someone is still eating f we must wait. This shows that fro my culture we give respect to the food and give thanks to god for allowing us to eat yet another meal. Thus I learned that sometimes during the day we also must have a quiet time to reflect about our actions that we did or could have done throughout the day. Over all this shows that my culture values a lot respect and effort that goes into growing and bearing able to put food on the table for one or more people thinking god for yet another day to live and eat with our loved ones.

Write about a time when you realized that your perception of a particular food was based on a stereotype.

Originally I always thought why do people say we only eat beans or are we bean people. I always found that kinda weird.i believed everyone ate it but then i found out that a lot of people do eat beans but Mexicans eat it even more.i even asked my mother and what she told me is because it’s out peoples food.i asked her what do you mean our peoples food? She then explained we Mexicans mainly grow it live from it and feed from it. Its a food source that has sustained almost everyone’s lives.although to our people its was more of a blessing than any other food.Since then I always thank the beans for being a blessing to me and my family. Over all people always say things of others. I just learned to live with it and appreciate what is given to me and appreciate others for what they do and give me. My thinking shifted the moment I stoped thinking it was just a crop but something more meaningful to my family. I always used to question it but after hearing an explanation from my mother I belie...

What is one dish from your culture that is a must have as a representation of your culture.

A very important dish from my culture is definitely the tamal. This dish represents how the past future and present have been through my family’s culture. It shows genuine care of people. Showing love for cooking for others, and respect. Overall my mother taught me from young that one person can tell a story and a dish can tell many more. Meaning that very dish can tell how our people lived in the past how we live in the present and how one might live like in the future. I think that perhaps people should try and understand a special dish of their culture, Maybe by doing this they can find something that is different from others and find something that they can call their own in their culture.
